Hotshot banker Andrew Dufresne is sent to Shawshank Prison after his wife’s murder, where the normal unpleasantness occurs. He maintains hope over the years and gradually gains the respect of his fellow prisoners, especially long-time convict “Red” Redding, a black marketer, and within the prison becomes influential. Eventually, on his own terms, Andrew achieves his goals.
