“Dark Water” is a 2002 Japanese horror film Directed by Hideo Nakata. The movie is based on a short story by Koji Suzuki, the same author of “Ring” (which inspired “The Ring” franchise).
The film follows the story of Yoshimi Matsubara, a young mother who is in the midst of a difficult divorce and custody battle for her daughter, Ikuko. To escape her troubled past, Yoshimi moves with her daughter to a dilapidated apartment building.
As they settle into their new home, strange and eerie occurrences begin to unfold. Mysterious water leaks from the ceiling, and a child’s red bag keeps resurfacing. As the water problem worsens, Yoshimi becomes increasingly paranoid and starts to uncover the building’s dark history and a connection to a missing girl.
As the horror escalates, Yoshimi is haunted by terrifying visions and faces the disturbing truth behind the supernatural events. She must confront her past and protect her daughter from the malevolent forces that threaten their safety.
