“Zatoichi” is a 2003 Japanese samurai film directed by Takeshi Kitano. The movie is a modern take on the classic character Zatoichi, a blind masseur and master swordsman who wanders the countryside, righting wrongs and battling injustice.
In this iteration, Takeshi Kitano himself portrays Zatoichi. The story unfolds in a rural village plagued by gang violence and corruption. The blind swordsman, Zatoichi, arrives in the village and quickly becomes entangled in the power struggles between rival yakuza gangs.
Despite his blindness, Zatoichi possesses exceptional sword-fighting skills and an acute sense of hearing, making him a formidable and deadly opponent. As he navigates the treacherous landscape of the village, he befriends two geisha sisters, who are skilled in their own right and harbor their own secrets.
