“Fukushima 50” (Japanese: “フクシマ50”) is a 2020 Japanese disaster drama film Directed by Setsuro Wakamatsu. The movie is based on the true events surrounding the Fukushima Daiichi nuclear disaster that occurred in 2011 following a massive earthquake and tsunami.
The film depicts the heroic efforts of the workers at the Fukushima Daiichi Nuclear Power Plant who risked their lives to prevent a catastrophic meltdown of the nuclear reactors. The story follows the plant’s shift supervisor, Toshio Izaki (played by Koichi Sato), and his team as they struggle to contain the disaster, make crucial decisions, and face dangerous and life-threatening situations.
