“Hana-bi” (Japanese: “はなび”) is a 1997 Japanese crime drama film Directed by Takeshi Kitano, who also stars in the lead role. The film is known by its English title “Fireworks” in international markets.
The story follows Nishi (played by Takeshi Kitano), a former police detective who is grappling with personal tragedies. Nishi’s life takes a dark turn when his partner is left paralyzed and another colleague is killed during a stakeout gone wrong. As Nishi navigates the aftermath of these events, he embarks on a path of redemption and seeks solace through painting and taking care of his terminally ill wife.
