Nothing would make a meek and mild projectionist, who also cleans up after screenings, happier than to be a private investigator. He marries a lovely lady, but a ladies man known as the Sheik competes for her affection. He gets rid of the projectionist by taking the girl’s father’s pocket watch, which he pawns to buy her an expensive candy box. He then smuggles the pawn ticket into the projectionist’s bag, where it is discovered by the cops. He doesn’t have much success, but in his dreams, he is the dashing and well-known detective Sherlock Jr., who faces danger and solves the case. The girl solves crimes easily in real life.
